William J. Fehrman, 55, is president and CEO of MidAmerican Energy Company. Fehrman also is president and CEO of BHE Renewables. The companies are subsidiaries of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, a global leader in the production of energy from diversified fuel sources, including coal, natural gas, wind, solar, hydroelectric, nuclear, geothermal and biomass. Berkshire Hathaway Energy also is a leader in the supply and distribution of energy in the U.S., Canadian and U.K. consumer markets, with approximately 11.5 million electricity and natural gas customers.
MidAmerican Energy Company provides regulated electric and natural gas service to nearly 1.4 million customers in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and South Dakota. The company owns and operates a diverse portfolio of power generating assets, as well as a growing transmission infrastructure. BHE Renewables develops, constructs, operates and owns nonregulated wind, geothermal, solar and hydro generating assets, including 10 geothermal power plants, four solar farms, four wind farms, one hydroelectric plant and four natural gas-fueled plants located across the U.S.
Until September 2007, Fehrman was the president of PacifiCorp Energy, with responsibility for electric generation, commercial and energy trading, construction management, and coal-mine development and operations of the company. Fehrman joined Berkshire Hathaway Energy in February 2006 to oversee integration activities of the company's acquisition of PacifiCorp.
Prior to 2006, Fehrman was president and CEO of Nebraska Public Power District, based in Columbus, Neb. He joined Nebraska Public Power District in May 1981 and held various positions across the business, including assignments in fossil and nuclear generation, until becoming CEO Jan. 1, 2003.
Fehrman graduated in 1984 from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. In 1998, he earned a master’s degree in business administration from Regis University, Denver, Colo. He also completed the Reactor Technology Program for utility executives from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and National Academy for Nuclear Training and the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations Senior Nuclear Plant Management Course. Fehrman is a retired member of the National Nuclear Accrediting Board.
Fehrman is a member of the Iowa Business Council, the Greater Des Moines Partnership, the board of directors for the American Gas Association, and the Iowa Partnership for Economic Progress board.
